Centre of Parking Lot Garden is Planted

Centre looking West - 20 June 2015

Centre looking East - 20 June 2015
Today, we planted and mulched the Centre of the Parking Lot Garden with the plants as described in Native Plants for Parking Lot Garden. Other than we grouped the tallest three plants at the west end of the bed, all plants are random in groups of five about a foot apart (how's that for random!).

Saturday June 20 and Week of June 22

Saturday, we will plant the Centre section of the Parking Garden, and perhaps the West section if we have enough soil.

Monday, more soil comes which we can spread in the East section of the Parking Garden and then plant. The remainder of the new soil is destined for the Entrance Beds that we are planning on expanding.

The remainder of the week is to plant the last six beds in the Produce Garden (Beds 23 - 28), plus move the sod from the Parking Garden into Bed 29. Plus spread the remaining mulch in the Parking Garden and Road Garden.

After that, it should just be watering and weeding for the rest of the summer. And learning. No more brute force work until we create the remainder of the Produce Garden beds after harvest.

More Soil Please

19 June 2015
We added more soil into the centre of the Parking garden and will use up the rest of the soil (just in front of the mulch) in the West section of the Parking Garden. We have more soil coming on Monday.

Slowly the Parking Lot Garden Appears

We were able to lower about half of what's remaining in the east section of the Parking Lot Garden. Slow digging because of yesterday's rain. We placed two bags of 1 1/2 inch rock around each drain  to minimize soil getting washed away. Also, we placed more soil down the centre section. We'll see tomorrow if we have enough soil for the entire garden. I had estimated 4 inches deep. If that is insufficient, then I shall remember to allow for a 6 inch depth of soil for all future areas that we dig.

Half Way Through the East of Parking Lot Garden

Once we have made the surface lower than the asphalt, then it's cardboard (to minimize the weeds), soil, mulch, native plants and grasses.

Roses and Peonies

The Entrance Beds are starting to flower. Wild roses, dianthus, and 'Bowl of Beauty' peony about to blossom.

Fox!

Our wish has been granted. Perhaps now we will have less rabbits.

Centre of Parking Lot Garden Ready to Plant

After - 13 June 2015

Before - 8 June 2015

It took a while on Saturday but we got the centre section excavated and ready to plant.
Like the Last Spike at Craigellachie (November 7, 1885), this is the centre section's Last Mud and a reason to celebrate:
